Today I was in the Oncology department from 8:35 until 4:33! I learned how to draw blood from a dog's jug and successfully did it on the second dog I tried. I also intubated three dogs! I thought that intubating the dogs were easier because the tub slid right down, whereas I had to fish a little for the vain. In the picture above, a vet tech is preparing the chemo treatment for the pet. It has to be done wearing gloves and a gown because it is very toxic to humans. Chemo can either be injected into the vain or given in a pill, which is typically used for cats or small dogs. I didn't get to see the radiation because I wasn't allowed back there due to the chemicals. I definitely like Oncology a lot more then Cardiology!
