I was there from 8:50 until 5:10 today. There were at least five cats that came in with herpes, so I had to be very careful not to bring it home to my kittens and cats! Herpes in cats is very similar to herpes in humans. The cat will have it it's entire life and will have flair ups when it gets stressed. If it spreads into the eyes, it is treated with terramycin which is an antibiotic ointment. The dog in the picture above, Harley, had a cherry eye in both eyes that we tired down. In order to tire it down, a small incision has to be made through the gland and tied down inside. This was done by Dr. Wolf attaching forceps to both sides of the gland and having me hold it upright while he tied it in place. This surgery has a 80% chance of working correctly.
