July 29, 2013

Today was my first day back at Blue Pearl, and I was there from 8:50 till 3:55. It was my shortest day ever there! I was working with the cardiologist, Dr. Spier and his inter Carla. He saw 5 cases and each one required a blood pressure and an EKG (machine pictured above). I held the animal while he and Carla performed the tests. They had a dobler that they used to take the bp, and I thought it was really cool that I could actually hear the heart! I also listened to abnormal heart beats and looked at the EKG print out. I learned about p and t waves and the q-r-s complex. All in all today was a learning experience but I don't want to go into cardiology!
