Today, Dr. Wolf was in Lakeland from 9 till 3. He didn't have as many patients as he did yesterday, so he was able to explain more of what he was doing to me. Most of the pets were re-checks, but a few were new appointments. I learned that the normal pressure for a dog's eye is between 12 and 18; if it's above that then the dog is developing glaucoma, and if it's below that then the dog has inflammation. One of the new patients was a cat who the owners said didn't like other people. I held her while Dr. Wolf put a stain in her eye, and she lick me! It turned out that she had scratched her eye and that she had herpes. There were also 7 "cotton balls" that came in to have their eyes examined so that they could be bread; they all looked great! A dog named Bella came in (pictured above), with a cataract in her left eye. Dr. wolf told the owner that the surgery is elective and she will do fine with only the left eye, or being blind. He gave her some medications to use while he determined if she is even a candidate for surgery. Dr. Wolf is going to a conference in Canada tomorrow, and won't be back till next week!
