Today I was in Critical Care from 8:53 till 5:25, and it was very exciting! There was a 16 year old cat that came in; she was dehydrated, anemic, and covered in fleas! Dr. Pollio had me draw blood from the cat. Her veins were so bad that every time I pulled up on the syringe it would empty, so I had to pump her foot to get the blood flowing again! After that the basset hound (pictured above) came in under respiratory arrest. I held the oxygen in front of her face till the tech found the tube. When Dr. Pollio was listening to her heart, I drew blood from her leg too! We took her to cardiology so that they could run an EKG. She is staying in the ICU over night, and will hopefully be better tomorrow. It's hard to believe that this if my last week interning/externing this summer, but I am excited to get back to school!
